TGIF

I don’t know who coined that famous line but, yeah, thank God for Fridays. Fridays, almost always, feels good.

Why do I thank God for a Friday..?

When I was still in grade school, Fridays meant TV marathon ‘til I fall asleep - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ewoks, Doogie Howser MD, 90210, et al.

It also meant great food. My mum would usually come home late but she never fails to bring me Sbarro, French Baker or kahit Dunkin’ Donuts lang. I love my mum.

It also meant crazy time with my cousin Chec. We’d play outside our apartment and dance and sing the night away - as in hanggang 12 midnight - as long as nobody can see us. We’d pretend we were Ate V’s dancers or Maricel Soriano’s backups. We’d sing the "I love you song" that goes "siete te amo, I love you, watashiwa blah blah blah blah blah blah, iniibig kita, gwa ai di".... Hehehehe I don’t know the lyrics now, but we knew each translation of "i love you" then. When we sense that there would be passers by, who are usually the makanikos next door, we’d stop dancing or singing and hide in the bushes. Sometimes we like to scare them, we’d clap or make any creepy/funny sound. They’d stop halfway and turn their heads, looking if there was anybody else around. But, we’re in the bushes. Hehe

Fridays were different when I was in highschool. Fridays were Mcdo days. Kulasas, every Fridays, flock McDo intersection in San Fernando (Pampanga). Some have dates with Bosconians/Kabalyeros, some are with barkadas, some are with their "ka-On", some are just buying food because going home they need to travel far pa. Haay, Kulasa days.

Fridays during college was the second to the last day of school. I had classes Monday thru saturdays kasi. So, Fridays were not that exciting. Just the same, Fridays felt good.

Working in Makati, Fridays to me were exciting. It was the last working day of the week. Friday was a drinking day for me... "shotting spree" as Redj calls it. Top of mind gimik was to go to Timog and enjoy a night full of reggae music with the most papable reggae band then (up to now ba?), Brownman Revival :D I would text my closest shenglot friends, Karen, Chini, Momon, Jopiping and whoever wanted to get wasted, just to remind them that we are drinking. Haay, Xaymaca nights.... I miss Xaymaca.

In Xaymaca, everybody’s a pothead.... So I belong. :p (behlat.)

There were also Fridays when I was sober and it meant movie dates with my mum, which I enjoy very much. =)

Nowadays, I enjoy my Fridays watching TV, Bubble Gang in particular - Stef’s favorite gag show, second is Takeshi’s Castle. I just enjoy staying at home - I can’t even say "relaxing at home" ‘coz when you have a 1 year and 9 months old, a 3-months old and a husband who acts like a 4 year old, it can’t be relaxing.

Someday, I’ll have those movie dates with my own kiddos.

I miss mum.
