non sequitur.
when i was so much younger, my mum used to make me read Inquirer. HARSH!?! naaah.. she makes me read Inquirer Jr. - a supplement for kids filled with comic strips, word and picture puzzles, dot-to-dot, and other kiddie stuff you could think of. it was the paper's way of making kids acquire the good habbit of reading and learning at the same time.
it was so fun for me. i looked forward to Saturday and Sunday mornings as my parents read the serious part of the newspaper, there i was reading the junior supplement. feeling genius, i always tried to finish the puzzles and activities faster and more accurate than my last weekend performance. adik! haha.
i was so fast, i always found my parents still busy and serious reading the current affairs, lifestyle and entertainment portions. since i'm done with mine, i would get the pages they were done with and read them. i tried and tried to understand no matter how highfalutin the words were.
later on, my mum encouraged me to read thick pocket books, which i did not do because the growing proud youngster (monster) in me chose to just play, mingle and enjoy friends, watch tv shows and movies, and listen to music instead.
but those newspaper weekends contributed much to my fondness for reading... which i thank my parents for, especially my mum.
